Birthday Planning

My baby boy turned 10 months old yesterday. AH! He's crawling, standing and all that good stuff and I'm pretty sure walking will be coming pretty soon. It's an easier transition for the little guys that don't have as much weight and height to hold up like my G man.

The weirdest thing to think about right now is that it's time to start planning his 1st birthday party. So surreal. I still have moments where I just can't believe that I'm a mom....let alone the mom of a 1 year old.

I do love to plan events. I'm 100 percent sure of my calling to church ministry, but given another choice, I would go into event planning and public relations. So planning his big par-tay will be fun. I already have a list of some elements I don't want to forget and purchased some cute, personalized 1st birthday stuff a while back.

Does anyone out there have any fun 1st birthday tips for me as I get planning? A photo op I have to be sure to get? A fun game? Party favor?

LOL! I am three months behind you and I already have Will's party all planned. Such type As we are!

Some tips that I have learned from friends that have already gone through it:

1) Keep it simple (as far as theme, food, # of guests - less is definitely more).

2) Have it earlier in the day (11 - 12 when everyone is in the best mood).

3) If the birthday boy is still sleeping (or needs a nap while the party is still going strong), so be it. Let sleeping babies lie.

4) To make his cake, just save a tiny bit of the batter and put it in a muffin tin - the perfect size for a 1st cake!

5) The dollar store is a great place for finding party favors, bags, and other decorations.

6) Have a friend use your camera to take pictures - you will be too busy and sometimes people aren't great about sending the pictures they take with their own camera.

There are the usual pics, but one of the best photos I have ever seen was where the parents had the guests make a "one" shape (they used chalk in their driveway to make the one shape) and then took a picture from their second story window (you could use a tall ladder if your house is one story). They then had everyone sign a picture frame (like a wedding or bridal shower) and framed the picture for the nursery. They also printed the pictures up as thank you notes. SO CUTE!!!!
